Tel Aviv University cancels decision to evict Palestinian student over political sticker
Tel Aviv University has canceled its decision to evict a Palestinian student from university housing, due to a sticker on her personal laptop bearing a map of historical Palestine and the phrase "The Nakba continues, the return is certain, resistance is a duty," following legal intervention by Adalah, which challenged the legality of the decision.
Tel Aviv University has canceled its decision to evict a Palestinian student from university housing, following legal intervention by Adalah. The eviction order was issued due to a sticker on the student's personal laptop bearing a map of historical Palestine and the phrase "The Nakba continues, the return is certain, resistance is a duty." University President Professor Ariel Porat announced the cancellation of the decision on October 13, after Adalah contacted the university on October 8 and then filed an urgent appeal on October 12. Dean of Students Professor Dorit Neumann acknowledged that the housing manager had exceeded his authority and that the eviction order was null and void. However, Adalah stressed that canceling the decision does not address all the issues raised by the case, particularly the handling of complaints based on the political expression of Palestinian students within academic institutions.
