With "SoftBank" and "MGX": New $11 billion funding for "OpenAI"
OpenAI has raised $11 billion in new funding in an initial close of an investment round, with the participation of Japan's SoftBank and the UAE's MGX, at a time when the AI sector is seeing a decline in investor appetite and a revaluation of major companies.
OpenAI, the developer of the ChatGPT chatbot, has raised $11 billion in new funding in an initial close of an investment round in which the company was valued at about $1.25 trillion. Japan's SoftBank Group and the UAE's MGX both participated in the round, according to investors, and Bloomberg was the first to reveal its details. The new funding comes at a time when the AI sector is seeing a decline in investor appetite and a revaluation of the major companies operating in it, with growing caution about high valuations. Reuters noted that this shift was not limited to OpenAI, as some investors estimated the value of the anticipated initial public offering of rival Anthropic at about $1.5 trillion, compared with earlier expectations of $2 trillion. The new funding came months after OpenAI announced in March 2026 the closing of a funding round with capital commitments of $122 billion, at a valuation of $852 billion after accounting for the funding.
