In a sharp sermon delivered at his synagogue, Hirsch said that anti-Jewish sentiments have been completely normalized in American politics, both on the right and the left. He pointed to new elected officials in the House of Representatives and the Senate who, he says, are not merely critical of Israeli policy but ideologically oppose its very existence. Hirsch also attacked the Mayor of New York, amid public pressure that led to an apology for the timing of his remarks, but not for their content. He concluded that anti-Zionism is a hate-filled ideology of destruction that is neither liberal nor moral.
