Warning in Karmiel: It is mandatory to boil drinking water

The Ministry of Health issued a directive to residents of Karmiel to boil tap water before drinking, cooking, preparing medications, and brushing teeth, following abnormal results in water sampling. Bathing and use for sanitation purposes are permitted. The directive is valid until further notice.

The Ministry of Health issued an unusual directive today (Tuesday) to residents of Karmiel, stating that tap water must be boiled before any use that could lead to ingestion. The directive was issued following abnormal results obtained from water sampling conducted in the city. At this stage, the type of abnormality, which areas of the city are included in the directive, or the expected duration of additional tests have not been disclosed. Therefore, until another official update is published, the directive applies to all city residents. According to the Ministry of Health, water must be boiled before drinking, cooking and food preparation, preparing medications, and brushing teeth. Special care must be taken when preparing food and drinks for children, the elderly, and people with underlying medical conditions. Alongside the warning, the Ministry of Health clarified that water can be used for bathing and sanitation purposes, but ingestion of water during bathing should be avoided. Water sampling is conducted to check the quality of drinking water. An abnormal result does not necessarily indicate a disease event, but rather a precautionary measure until tests are completed. As of now, the Ministry of Health has not published information on any cases of illness linked to the water. The directive is valid until further notice.
