UK Charity Commission investigates Doctors Without Borders following alleged terror links

The UK Charity Commission has opened a regulatory compliance case into Doctors Without Borders (MSF UK) following a complaint by UK Lawyers for Israel (UKLFI) alleging ties between the medical charity and terrorist groups in Gaza, including Hamas, Palestinian Islamic Jihad, and the PFLP. The case was initiated after a detailed report citing specific personnel connections, including an MSF physiotherapist killed in a 2024 airstrike whom PIJ later claimed as a commander. MSF UK, which generated over £95 million in 2024, stated it rejects the allegations and is cooperating fully.

The UK Charity Commission has opened a regulatory compliance case into Medecins Sans Frontieres (UK), known as Doctors Without Borders, in response to a detailed report filed by UK Lawyers for Israel (UKLFI). The report alleges that the international medical charity maintains connections with terrorist organizations active in the Gaza Strip, including Hamas, Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ), and the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP). A senior case manager within the Charity Commission's High Risk Compliance division formally notified UKLFI of the decision via email last Wednesday, indicating that the agency had initiated a compliance case to evaluate the situation and review the specific points outlined in the report. Among the cited instances is Fadi Jihad Mohammed al-Wadiya, an MSF physiotherapist killed during a June 2024 airstrike in Gaza. Although MSF initially rejected Israeli assertions linking him to PIJ operations, the PIJ subsequently released statements and imagery in February 2026 designating al-Wadiya as a commander and deputy head of its manufacturing division. Additional scrutiny targets other personnel, including a driver flagged as a Hamas sniper and a physician allegedly tied to the PFLP medical apparatus. UKLFI has also requested investigation into whether MSF UK leadership maintained sufficient supervision over international operational centers receiving charitable capital. MSF UK generated upwards of £95 million in total income throughout 2024, which included £2.7 million earmarked for humanitarian initiatives across the Palestinian territories. MSF stated it unequivocally rejects the allegations and is cooperating fully with the Commission.
