Trump rejects deal with Iran - Tehran sets new conditions
After Donald Trump rejected the proposed deal, Tehran stated that resolving the conflict with the US and Israel is only possible through negotiations. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi emphasized that shipping through the Strait of Hormuz will resume only on Iran's terms, and pointed to a discrepancy between Trump's public statements and data from diplomatic channels.
After Iran waited in vain for a response from Donald Trump to the proposed deal on Saturday and received a rejection, on Sunday, September 27, Tehran declared that the conflict with the US and Israel can only be resolved through negotiations and diplomacy. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stated that Tehran is ready to resume shipping through the Strait of Hormuz only on its own terms. "Our conditions are clearly formulated, and any step towards resuming shipping in the Strait of Hormuz is possible only if they are met. Only a solution at the negotiating table can get them out of this impasse," Araghchi emphasized. The Iranian side also pointed to a discrepancy between the US president's public statements and information coming through official diplomatic channels. The minister added that mediators maintaining contact between Tehran and Washington have not yet conveyed a formal US response to the proposed plan to Iran. Tehran expects to receive the final position of the American side precisely through mediators, after which it will determine further steps.
