The Iran International news agency, which opposes the Iranian regime, revealed that Quds Force commander Ismail Qaani has appointed a new commander for Unit 840 – Iran's covert operations unit. The new commander is Mojtaba Haq-Lasan, 64, who previously served as head of the unit's intelligence division. The previous commander, Yazdan Mir, known by the alias 'Hajj Asgar Bakri', was killed in April in an attack attributed to Israel. According to the report, after the exposure of Unit 840's structure and operatives, the Revolutionary Guards decided to rename it to Unit 600 to allow its continued activity under a new organizational framework. According to a command chart obtained by the site, Mohammad-Reza Ansari was appointed as Haq-Lasan's deputy and is responsible for the Israel portfolio. Mohsen Borjani is responsible for special operations in America and Europe, Morteza Babaei manages activities in the Middle East and Africa, and Javad Sharafai is in charge of operations in Asia. The site's sources claimed that the appointment of former personnel to key positions indicates a command crisis in the Quds Force, following the elimination or exposure of senior commanders. The unit was established in the first half of the 2010s by order of Qasem Soleimani, from Unit 400. Over the years, it has been attributed with attempts to harm senior Americans, Israelis, and regime opponents, including a plot to assassinate John Bolton.
