About 30,000 bottles of wine, with an estimated value of 5.8 million dollars, were stolen from a facility of the Italian winery Marchesi Antinori in Tuscany. At least seven thieves disabled the alarm and the security cameras, entered with two large trucks and used forklifts on the site to load the loot. The company described the incident as the largest wine theft ever recorded in Italy. The theft took place on Saturday night and was discovered on Monday, but the company revealed the case only yesterday, saying it did so in order not to disrupt the investigation. The company's CEO, Renzo Cotarella, said it was a well-prepared gang. Among the wines stolen were Solaia, Tignanello and Guado al Tasso - some of the company's most sought-after wines, all from the 2023 vintage. Their store price ranges between 150 and 500 euros per bottle. The loot included about 10,000 bottles of Solaia. Cotarella raised the possibility that the thieves belong to a group responsible for thefts from other wineries in Italy in recent months. The police and the Carabinieri are examining security camera footage and additional evidence.
