The Northern District Attorney's Office today (Thursday) filed an indictment with the Nazareth court against a 39-year-old resident of Afula, charging him with aggravated assault and obstruction of justice. The indictment was filed following an investigation by the Northern District Police into a severe stabbing incident in Afula on August 25, 2026. That morning, a 66-year-old city resident on his way to the synagogue for Selichot and morning prayers was brutally attacked and stabbed forcefully all over his body. Medical teams evacuated him in serious condition to HaEmek Medical Center. The police released new footage of the suspect fleeing the scene. The suspect was arrested two days later, on August 27, and his detention has been extended periodically. The indictment was filed by attorney Noy Shitrit.
