Syrian military facilities explode - what is happening in the country

In Syria, a series of powerful explosions at military facilities over ten days have killed at least 25 people. The latest incident occurred in Deir ez-Zor province, where an explosion killed 11 servicemen. According to the Syrian state agency SANA, the explosion occurred on September 18 in the Ayash area. The Syrian Ministry of Defense announced an investigation, but the causes of the detonation and the nature of the damaged facility are not officially disclosed. According to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, the explosion may have occurred at an ammunition depot. Earlier, on September 9, a powerful detonation occurred near the city of Sarmada in Idlib province, where a temporary weapons depot exploded, killing at least 14 people. The causes of both explosions have not been definitively established, and there is no information about a possible connection between them. The incidents have drawn attention to the state of Syria's military infrastructure, which has endured more than a decade of civil war. Particularly dangerous are depots with ammunition of unknown origin or weapons damaged during previous hostilities. For the Syrian authorities, such incidents mean not only human losses but also the need for additional inspections of military facilities.
