Starting this morning: The obligation returning to the roads – and the fine for those who forget

Winter driving regulations take effect today: a requirement to turn on headlights on intercity roads until March 31, 2027. The fine for violators is 100 shekels and two penalty points.

As of today (Sunday), the requirement to turn on daytime headlights on intercity roads in Israel has come into effect as part of winter driving regulations. Drivers are required to turn on their front and rear lights even during daylight hours to increase visibility and reduce the risk of accidents during the winter season. The obligation applies to all vehicles on intercity roads until March 31, 2027. Within cities, private car drivers are exempt when visibility is normal, but buses, taxis, and trucks over 15 tons must have lights on even in urban areas. Motorcyclists are required to have lights on all types of roads year-round. Drivers caught without lights face a fine of 100 shekels and two penalty points. Vehicles with automatic daytime running lights (DRL) that only illuminate front lights do not meet the requirement. The National Road Safety Authority recommends keeping low-beam lights on all year.
