Mukhtars, notables and reconciliation figures in the Gaza Strip stressed the importance of integrating the role of clans with the police and the rule of law in containing family disputes and protecting civil peace, warning of Israeli attempts to dismantle the Palestinian social fabric. This came during a dialogue meeting titled "The Role of Clans in Protecting Civil Peace", organised by a number of notables and national figures in Gaza City, with the participation of mukhtars, reconciliation men and representatives of civil society institutions. The secretary-general of the Clans Committee in Gaza, Salah Abu Rakba, said that Palestinian families possess long-standing experience in managing disputes, noting that the Israeli occupation seeks, through war and destruction, to inflame disagreements between families. The head of the Mukhtars Association, Saif Abu Ramadan, stressed that the efforts of the clans contributed to resolving complex family disputes in integration with the police and the law. Member of the National Gathering of Palestinian Tribes and Clans Abu al-Abd Abu Salmiya praised the role of reconciliation men in containing disputes during the war.
