Permanent embassy of the United Arab Emirates approved for construction in Israel
The Tel Aviv District Planning and Building Committee approved a plan to build the permanent embassy of the United Arab Emirates in Herzliya Pituach, on a plot of about 2.5 dunams and up to 15 stories high. The move is a continuation of the Abraham Accords and the establishment of diplomatic relations in 2020.
The Tel Aviv District Planning and Building Committee approved today (Tuesday) the plan to build the permanent embassy of the United Arab Emirates in Israel, to be located at 9 Sapir Street in the Herzliya Pituach business district. The plan, defined as having national and political importance, is being advanced following the Abraham Accords and the establishment of diplomatic relations between Israel and the United Arab Emirates in 2020. The embassy currently operates from temporary offices in Tel Aviv and Herzliya, and the new building will serve as its permanent home. According to the approved plan, a building up to 15 stories high will be constructed on a plot of about 2.5 dunams, with a total built-up area of up to 15,000 square meters. Up to 20% of the building rights will be allocated for the residence of the ambassador and diplomatic staff on the upper floors. Additionally, the plan includes a separate entrance to the underground parking lot, expansion of the right-of-way on Sapir Street, and the creation of a public space with shade trees and improved pedestrian infrastructure. The land on which the embassy will be built is owned by the Herzliya Municipality. As part of the process, and in coordination with the Israel Land Authority, the transfer of the land to the state is being advanced for leasing to the United Arab Emirates, in exchange for an alternative plot for the municipality in the marina area. The Tel Aviv District Planner at the Planning Administration, architect Erez Ben Eliezer, said this is "an important and significant plan for the city of Herzliya, the Tel Aviv District, and the State of Israel," adding that the embassy's location near the city's business and high-tech centers will contribute to deepening international ties and future cooperation.
