Experts explain that exploiting the vulnerability opened the possibility for hackers to break out of the modem's isolated software environment and achieve privilege escalation, gaining access to confidential data. Particularly alarming is that the attack could be carried out autonomously, without any action by the owner—the zero-click method. Google confirmed that the vulnerability was fixed in a routine security patch but did not disclose details about the perpetrators of the attacks.
