Earlier on Monday, the Houthis claimed they had carried out a large-scale attack against King Khalid Air Base in Khamis Mushait and threatened to expand their operations. Clashes between the recognized Yemeni government forces and the Houthis have intensified since the beginning of July, after years of relative calm. The war in Yemen broke out after the Houthis took over the capital Sanaa in 2014, and in 2015 the Arab coalition intervened in the fighting alongside the recognized government.
