Russia demands clarifications from Iran: 'We expect you not to withdraw from the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty'

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov stated that Russia expects Iran to remain committed to the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), in response to statements by Iranian officials about a possible withdrawal. Peskov noted that the statements require clarification. Meanwhile, the Kremlin denied involvement in the arson of a security plant in Estonia and defended decrees imposing external management on foreign companies.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov stated today (Tuesday) that Russia does not want Iran to withdraw from the international Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) and expects it to remain committed to the agreement. Peskov responded to statements by Iranian officials about a possible withdrawal from the treaty, noting that the Iranian statements require clarification. He emphasized the importance Russia places on its strategic partner continuing to uphold its commitments not to acquire or develop nuclear weapons. Meanwhile, the Kremlin addressed other issues: Moscow strongly denied claims of Russian involvement in the arson of a security plant in Estonia, calling the accusations "baseless." Additionally, Peskov defended the presidential decrees imposing temporary external management on the operations of foreign companies in Russia, explaining that this is a response to the growing involvement of "unfriendly countries" in military activity against the Russian Federation. He clarified that the move does not constitute a change in ownership of the assets and that it is a reversible process, but noted that there is currently no grounds for its cancellation.
