Relatives of American citizens who were killed, kidnapped, or harmed in the October 7 massacre gathered at a memorial ceremony at the US State Department in Washington, hosted by Secretary of State Marco Rubio. The families called for the establishment of a congressional investigation committee and for prosecuting those responsible for the murder of American citizens, while criticizing the lack of answers from the Israeli government.

Relatives of American citizens who were murdered, kidnapped, or harmed in the October 7 massacre gathered today (Thursday) at the US State Department in Washington for a memorial ceremony for their loved ones. The ceremony was hosted by Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick, and his wife. During the ceremony, the families called for the establishment of an investigation committee in the US Congress and for prosecuting those responsible for the murder of American citizens. In a statement on behalf of the families, it was reported that nearly 50 American citizens were murdered in the massacre, dozens were wounded, and others were kidnapped to Gaza. The families expressed criticism over the lack of answers from the Israeli government: "After more than 1,000 days that we have been waiting for the Israeli government to get answers about how October 7 happened, perhaps we will succeed in getting answers from an American investigation committee." Avi On, cousin of the late Carmela Dan, said that the families came to ensure their stories are heard and that those responsible are brought to justice. Ruby Chen, father of the late Staff Sergeant Itai Chen who fell in battle and was kidnapped to Gaza, said it was good that the administration honored the families of the fallen.
