Ramon Airport imposes serious restrictions - what you need to know

Ramon Airport near Eilat will switch to reduced operating hours starting November 1, ceasing regular flights after 11:30 PM. The restrictions will affect civilian flights by Arkia, Israir, and Air Haifa, as well as 25 US military refueling aircraft stationed at the complex. Exceptions are provided for emergencies and medical assistance. The airport will retain its function as a backup for Ben-Gurion Airport.

Ramon Airport, located near Eilat, will switch to reduced operating hours starting November 1. After the summer season and the Tishrei holidays, the Israel Airports Authority decided to limit activity: regular takeoffs and landings will only be permitted until 11:30 PM. This change will affect civilian flights by airlines Arkia, Israir, and Air Haifa, which operate mainly from 6:00 AM to 11:00 PM, eliminating the possibility of late-night flights. However, the restrictions will most notably impact US military operations: 25 US refueling aircraft are stationed at the airport, which previously could operate around the clock. The US military has been notified of the need to adjust their schedule. Exceptions are provided for pre-approved cases related to security and medical assistance. Ramon retains its strategic function as a backup airport for Ben-Gurion: in the event of airspace closure or emergency, some flights can be redirected to Eilat. For this purpose, a limited reserve staff, security personnel, firefighters, and air traffic controllers will remain on site.
