Miriam Redak (58), principal of the "Shalom Aleichem" school in Buenos Aires, discusses education for love of Israel and coping with difficult questions since October 7. The school has two large clocks, one showing local time and the other Israel time, symbolizing that students live in both places. About 1,320 Jewish students from kindergarten through high school study there, with ten hours of Jewish studies per week. Yair and Eitan Horn, former hostages, are alumni. Their brother Amos Horn, a tour guide, led a group of students from Argentina in central Israel on October 6, 2023. The tour ended late, preventing him from traveling to Kibbutz Nir Oz and joining his brothers, who were kidnapped on the morning of October 7. Miriam will arrive in Israel on October 11 to participate in the International Jewish Educator Conference led by the Ministry of Diaspora Affairs and Combating Antisemitism, with about 250 educators from around the world. According to Avi Cohen Skali, Director General of the ministry, Jewish educators provide the next generation with Jewish identity and a connection to Israel.
