US President Donald Trump has officially lifted decades-old restrictions on direct flights to and from Lebanon, revoking presidential orders from 1985, 1992, 1998, and 2007. The decision came after a visit by Lebanese President Joseph Aoun to Washington in July. The Lebanese embassy welcomed the move, but a date for the start of flights has not yet been set.
US President Donald Trump has officially lifted restrictions that had been in place for decades on direct flights to and from Lebanon. In doing so, Trump revoked presidential orders from 1985, 1992, 1998, and 2007, which were issued due to concerns about hostile takeover of aircraft. In Executive Order 2026-25, Trump directed the Secretary of Transportation to implement the decision immediately. The issue arose during the visit of Lebanese President Joseph Aoun to Washington last July. The Lebanese embassy welcomed the decision, seeing it as an expression of confidence in Lebanese security measures. However, a date for the start of flights has not yet been set, as regulatory, security, and operational approvals are required. According to reports, the Beirut-New York route is the first planned route.
