Opposition prepares to topple Netanyahu: "We will pass a law preventing a criminal defendant from forming a government"
Joint List Chairman Yosef Jabareen declared that his party will support after the elections a law that would prevent a person indicted for criminal offenses from forming a government. His remarks are part of a broad opposition strategy, including taking over the Knesset agenda and advancing legislation to oust Netanyahu.
Joint List Chairman MK Yosef Jabareen declared that his party will support after the elections the passage of a law preventing anyone indicted for criminal offenses from forming a government. In an interview with Haaretz, Jabareen said the List wants to be "a safety net for the Arab public and the Jewish democratic public" and that after the elections a responsible decision will be made to protect the values of the Arab public. Jabareen's remarks are part of a broader opposition strategy, as described in Mati Tuchfeld's column in Maariv. According to that strategy, the opposition plans to take over the Knesset and replace the Knesset Speaker, which would allow control of the legislative agenda and committees. Subsequently, the opposition intends to advance laws that would prevent Netanyahu from forming a government, alongside establishing a state commission of inquiry. The assessment is that this time no factor will block the move, unlike in the past.
