The prosecution has requested a sentence in absentia for artist Oleg Kuvaev — 5 years and 11 months in prison. The case is linked to an episode of the animated series "Masyanya" where the character urged soldiers to surrender, as well as failure to fulfill the duties of a "foreign agent."
The prosecution has requested a sentence in absentia for artist and creator of the animated series "Masyanya" Oleg Kuvaev — 5 years and 11 months in prison. The hearings took place in the Nevsky District Court of St. Petersburg. Kuvaev, who resides in Israel, is charged under two articles: failure to fulfill the duties of a "foreign agent" (Article 330.1 of the Criminal Code) and online calls against the security of Russia (Article 280.4 of the Criminal Code). The criminal case under the first article was opened in the spring of 2026 after Kuvaev failed to submit a report to the Ministry of Justice three times — he had previously been fined 30,000 rubles twice. The basis for the case on calls was the 169th episode of "Masyanya," released in the fall of 2023, in which the character addressed Russian soldiers with a proposal to surrender. Information about the proceedings was disseminated by the publication "Mediazona."
