Instagram introduces new rule for posts: what will change

Meta is expanding its system for labeling content created or edited with AI on Instagram, Facebook, and Threads. Instead of automatic removal, the company will add an "AI Information" label. The label may appear for fully generated content as well as materials where AI was used for retouching. Authors can voluntarily report their use of AI.

Meta has announced an expansion of its system for labeling content created or edited with artificial intelligence on social networks Instagram, Facebook, and Threads. Instead of automatically removing such posts, the company will add an "AI Information" label to them. This change aims to increase transparency amid the rapid spread of generative technologies and realistic synthetic content. Previously, Meta's rules were primarily focused on manipulated videos, but the development of image, video, and voice generators required a revision of the approach. The company has abandoned the previous "Made with AI" label, which could appear even with minor editing or retouching. The new label does not necessarily mean the material was fully generated by a neural network. Meta will identify such posts in several ways: the company's systems can detect technical data and industry indicators embedded in files by AI tools, and authors can voluntarily report their use of generative technologies. The presence of a label itself will not be a reason for removing a post if it complies with the social network's rules. For materials deemed false or misleading, a different approach remains: after verification, they may receive additional warnings, and their distribution in the feed may be limited.
