No more food - residents of Oleshky forced to eat dogs

In occupied Oleshky, Kherson region, residents have begun eating dogs due to a complete lack of food. The last food delivery was on May 26, and attempts to resume supplies are deadly due to mines and shelling. About 2,000 people remain in the city out of a pre-war population of 24,000.

In occupied Oleshky, Kherson region, the humanitarian situation has reached a critical point. According to the head of the Oleshky City Military Administration, Tetyana Hasanenko, residents have started eating dogs due to a total absence of food. The last batch of supplies was delivered to the city on May 26. All subsequent attempts to organize deliveries have failed: roads are mined and vehicles are under threat of shelling. On June 2, four vehicles hit mines, killing two people. About two thousand people remain in Oleshky, compared to a pre-war population of approximately 24,000. Evacuation is extremely difficult: there is no safe route, and only 11 residents have managed to leave on their own. With the onset of winter, the situation may worsen—snow and frost could deprive people of the ability to travel to neighboring settlements for food.
