Niveen went out looking for her home... then absence swallowed her and her husband kept searching for a trace

In July 2025, Niveen Abu Namous went with her husband Dr. Abdel Basit to check on their home in Tel al-Zaatar, northern Gaza, after displacement. A hundred meters from the house, a shell fell and the husband was injured, and they separated in the dust. Since then, the husband has been searching for his 46-year-old wife without a trace, moving between hospitals and human rights organizations, and listening to testimonies of released prisoners that may indicate she is held by the occupation.

On the morning of July 27, 2025, Niveen Abu Namous (46 years old) accompanied her husband Dr. Abdel Basit Abu Namous to check on their home in the Tel al-Zaatar area, northern Gaza Strip, after they were forced to flee due to the war. She wanted to see the house they had been away from for so long. About a hundred meters from the home, a shell fell near the couple followed by heavy gunfire. The husband was injured, and in the dust chaos they separated. The husband could not see or hear Niveen due to hearing loss and thick dust. Since then, he has been searching for her in Gaza hospitals, contacting the Red Cross and human rights organizations, and listening to testimonies of released prisoners. One prisoner said he heard she was moved from Tel al-Zaatar to the Indonesian Hospital and then elsewhere, and saw her from 10-15 meters away. Another prisoner mentioned her name at a detention site in occupied Jerusalem, and another account suggested she might be at Ramle Hospital. The husband refuses to consider her absence a certain end and clings to hope that she is alive.
