The Israel Police has introduced a new laser speed detector, the LTI 2020 TRUCAM, which simultaneously measures speed and photographs the violating vehicle. This allows issuing fines without stopping the driver — the officer only needs to aim the device and press the trigger. The device is larger than the older model, and its range is limited to about 150 meters. The older laser device LT 2020 remains in service but is gradually being phased out. The article also describes average speed radars, which record the average speed over a section between two points, and traffic light cameras. It discusses ways to challenge fines: the possibility of claiming that the driver was not the vehicle owner, or that the photo shows multiple cars. Countermeasures are also considered: Waze, radar detectors, and laser jammers, which are illegal in Israel.
