Responsibility was claimed by a previously unknown group, the "Islamic Movement of Righteous Companions" (Harakat Ashab al-Yamin al-Islamia). According to the American Jewish Committee, this group is also linked to an explosion near a synagogue in Rotterdam and attacks on Jewish targets in Amsterdam and London. Verkauteren confirmed that the perpetrators acted on direct orders from Tehran to strike Jewish targets worldwide. The threat level in Belgium remains at 3 out of 4. After the explosion in Liège, Belgian authorities sharply increased security at Jewish institutions.
