American streaming giant Netflix has announced the acquisition of exclusive broadcast rights for the 2030 World Cup in Spain and Andorra. The historic agreement includes live coverage of all 104 matches of the tournament, which will be held in Spain, Portugal, and Morocco, along with opening matches in South America. This marks the first time a digital entertainment platform has broadcast a full senior national team World Cup tournament. However, in accordance with local legislation protecting events of significant public interest, matches of the Spanish national team, both semi-finals, and the final match will be required to be broadcast free-to-air and without charge. For viewers in Israel, the deal has no direct impact at this stage, as broadcast rights are sold separately for each territory. The broadcast rights for the 2026 World Cup belonged to the public broadcasting corporation "Kan" as part of an agreement with the European Broadcasting Union. Regarding the 2030 World Cup, no official tender or announcement has yet been published regarding the identity of the entity that will acquire the rights in Israel.
