Elon Musk unveiled overnight (Friday) the new version of the Roadster, Tesla's electric sports car, at an unusual event at SpaceX's test site in McGregor, Texas. In the demonstration, the two-seat vehicle, developed in cooperation with SpaceX, was seen accelerating on a high ramp, performing a "flip flak" in the air, and landing using special thrusters. Musk said the Roadster can accelerate to 97 km/h in under a second and reach a top speed of about 370 km/h. Production is expected to begin in 2028. On the ordering page appeared a Performance version with a $50,000 deposit, a Thrust version with a $250,000 deposit, and a single-seat Rocket version with a "full flight system" by personal order. Reuters was quoted saying it is unclear how these features can be used on public roads and whether their use is legal. The headline promises the "flying Tesla", but the body mainly describes short aerial maneuvers.
