Mediation efforts and growing fear of escalation with Iran: "The gaps are abysmal"

Pakistan's army chief, Asim Munir, visited Tehran with a compromise proposal, but a breakthrough between Iran and the US still seems distant. Iranian statements indicate deep gaps and distrust of US President Donald Trump. Danny (Dennis) Citrinowicz, a senior researcher at INSS, told N12 that Iran's demand is for Trump to show willingness and fulfill the seven conditions set by Iran, and only then will they discuss the nuclear issue. The key conditions include releasing frozen Iranian funds, declaring an end to the war on all fronts, and ceasing interference in Iran's internal affairs. Citrinowicz assessed that the likelihood of a return to escalation is high, and that the US midterm elections in November are seen in Tehran as leverage against Trump. He warned of a long and dangerous war of attrition, noting that Iranians are attacking oil tankers in the Strait of Hormuz and trying to humiliate the Americans.
