Trump wants to evict White House press corps for a swimming pool
The New York Times revealed that President Trump is considering evicting White House reporters from the historic briefing room and turning it into an indoor swimming pool, based on conversations with three sources familiar with the discussions. Trump raised the idea with former White House press secretary, and senior officials support the initiative.
President Donald Trump is considering removing White House journalists from the historic briefing room and converting it into an indoor swimming pool, according to a report by The New York Times. The report states that Trump raised the idea with former White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt in late August, telling her the move could be 'your last legacy' in the role. The idea draws on history: in 1933, a pool was installed for President Franklin Roosevelt, and during the Nixon administration it was covered and turned into the briefing room. Trump posted images on Truth Social comparing the current room, labeled 'Fake News', with a rendering of a golden pool. One option is to move journalists to the nearby Eisenhower Executive Office Building. Communications director Steven Cheung did not rule out the possibility. The move comes amid an ongoing conflict between the administration and media outlets, and last month journalists from CNN, MSNBC, and Politico were barred from entering, though a court ordered their access restored.
