Maine man convicted after making online threats against Jews, VP Harris, US Attorney’s Office says

A 52-year-old Maine man, Thadius Wind, was sentenced to time served and three years of supervised release after being convicted of making online threats against Jewish people, Vice President Kamala Harris, law enforcement officers, and Elon Musk. The US Attorney's Office for the District of Maine announced the sentence on Wednesday, September 19, 2026. Wind was found guilty following a two-day jury trial in July 2026 of three counts of transmitting interstate threatening communications and one count of threatening a US vice president. Evidence showed Wind posted threats on X (formerly Twitter) targeting Jewish people, Harris, Maine law enforcement, and Musk. The FBI arrested Wind at his home in March 2025, recovering swords and evidence related to the threats. Officials from the US Attorney's Office, FBI, and Secret Service issued statements warning that online threats carry federal consequences and are not protected speech.
