A fugitive criminal named Alvaro Pulido Vargas, linked to the Nicolás Maduro regime in Venezuela, was arrested in the United States on suspicion of involvement in a widespread corruption scandal. Pulido, a 62-year-old Colombian citizen, was captured in an operation by a Homeland Security task force and will face serious charges in a federal court in South Florida. According to the suspicion, he helped transfer funds originating from Venezuelan government bribery schemes through US banks, in order to conceal illegal profits. One of the cases involves government contracts worth about $1.6 billion for the supply of food and medicine, and the second involves a fraud of about $350 million from a government housing program. US Attorney General Todd Blanche accused Pulido of exploiting aid programs for Venezuelan citizens while showing blatant disregard for the Venezuelan people. Pulido faces multiple money laundering charges, each carrying a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison.
