Likud demands TV channels: Do not broadcast the 'October Council' rally
Likud is demanding that television channels not broadcast the 'October Council' rally scheduled for October 24, claiming it is a political event aimed at influencing election results and may violate election laws. In a letter from Likud's legal advisor, it was stated that broadcasting the rally could constitute illegal election propaganda, and the party warns it will consider approaching the relevant authorities if the event is aired.
Likud is demanding that television channels and media outlets not broadcast the 'October Council' rally, scheduled for October 24 at Hostages Square in Tel Aviv. In a letter sent by attorney Ofir Baron, the party's legal advisor, it is claimed that the rally, organized by the October Council and the Kibbutz Movement, is a political event intended to influence election results, not a public event as presented. Likud argues that broadcasting the rally could violate election laws prohibiting election propaganda on television and radio during the period stipulated by law. It is further claimed that among the rally's participants and organizers are individuals identified with the political camp opposing the government, and that its stated goal is to bring about a change in government. Likud warns that if the event is broadcast in violation of the law, it will consider approaching the relevant authorities. Against this backdrop, the government informed the High Court of Justice in July that it had not managed to complete legislation to establish a state commission of inquiry into the events of October 7 due to the election recess.
