Kamala Harris's husband, Democrat donors privately oppose another presidential run - report

The Wall Street Journal reports that Doug Emhoff, Kamala Harris's husband, has privately expressed reservations about her running for president in 2028. Several major Democratic donors have also warned Harris that another campaign would face significant obstacles. Despite this, Harris has continued positioning for a potential run, hiring staff and traveling to battleground states.

The Wall Street Journal reported on Friday that Doug Emhoff, Kamala Harris's husband, has privately expressed reservations about her running for president again in 2028. Emhoff has told some people he would prefer his wife not seek the White House for a third time, though he is expected to support her if she decides to enter the race. Several major Democratic donors have also warned Harris directly that another presidential bid would face significant obstacles, raising questions about the financial and political support she could attract after losing to Donald Trump in 2024. Despite the reservations, Harris has continued taking steps that could position her for another national campaign. She has held discussions with major Democratic donors, hired staff, and traveled to battleground states to campaign for Democratic candidates ahead of November's midterm elections. Harris has publicly maintained that her immediate priority is helping Democrats regain control of Congress. Speaking at an NAACP event in Michigan in September, she said she remained undecided about another presidential campaign, stating, "I do sincerely believe '28 won't matter if we don't get through '26." The reported concerns come as Harris seeks to maintain her influence within the Democratic Party following her unsuccessful 2024 campaign, which began after Joe Biden withdrew from the race with 107 days remaining. A spokesperson for Harris declined to comment to the WSJ.
