Not only the US: which EU country increased revenues from trade with Russia

Germany increased exports of prosthetics, medicines, and agricultural machinery to Russia despite sanctions. In the first half of 2026, prosthetic supplies rose by nearly 19% to €112 million, pharmaceuticals by 18% to €1.5 billion, and agricultural machinery from €61 million to €89 million. Overall German exports to Russia fell by 2.9%.

Germany has increased shipments of several goods to Russia despite sanctions restrictions and the ongoing war against Ukraine. Exports of prosthetics saw particularly notable growth: in the first half of 2026, their value reached €112 million, nearly 19% higher than the same period in 2025. This is the highest figure for the first half of the year since at least 2020. One reason cited for the rising demand is the consequences of the war, during which a large number of Russian military personnel have been wounded. Deliveries of German pharmaceutical products to the Russian market rose by about 18% to €1.5 billion. Exports of agricultural machinery also increased, from €61 million in the same period last year to €89 million in the first half of 2026. At the same time, total German exports to Russia in the first six months of the year fell by 2.9%. Continued trade in medical devices and medicines is explained by existing exemptions from European sanctions, which allow the supply of humanitarian goods.
