"It's a weekend shift": Recording of threat against officer not included in file - suspect released

A young man from Ramla, Adam Elgaroushi, was suspected of threatening a police officer by saying "They only deal with you with an axe." The police requested a five-day extension of his remand, but during the hearing it emerged that video recordings of the incident were not included in the investigation file. Judge Gil Gabbai criticized the lack of documentation, called it a "very troubling" matter, and ordered the suspect released to house arrest under his mother's supervision.

The Tel Aviv Magistrate's Court ordered the release to house arrest of Adam Elgaroushi, a 21-year-old from Ramla, who was suspected of threatening a police officer by saying "They only deal with you with an axe." The incident occurred last Friday, following a report of a drone in the Giv'at Jarish neighborhood that led to a chase after a vehicle and two suspects. Officers detained Elgaroushi and another person at their home. During a search of his person before being placed in a holding cell, he allegedly made the threat. The police requested a five-day extension of his remand. At the hearing on Saturday night, it emerged that video recordings of the incident were not included in the investigation file. The defense attorney, Adv. Aman Dibsi, argued that the officers wore body cameras that recorded the incident and asked why no investigative actions were taken within 24 hours. A police representative replied: "No. It's a weekend shift." Judge Gil Gabbai criticized the contradictory explanations in the operational reports for the absence of the videos—a technical problem, a camera not in the officer's possession, and exposure of methods and means. The judge ruled that this was a "very troubling" matter and that there was no grounds to extend the suspect's detention at this stage, while instructing that the investigation be deepened. Elgaroushi was released to full house arrest under his mother's supervision until Tuesday.
