Israelis sue Flydubai: after flight cancellations, they made their way home at their own expense

A married couple returning from Japan filed a class-action lawsuit against Flydubai in the Tel Aviv District Court. They claim that after flights were canceled due to an attempted terrorist attack on September 30, 2026, the airline did not provide alternative tickets, and passengers were forced to make their own way to Israel, incurring significant expenses. The plaintiffs estimate their damages at 8,677 shekels and intend to represent all affected passengers.

Two Israelis, a married couple returning from Japan, filed a motion in the Tel Aviv District Court to certify their lawsuit as a class action against the airline Flydubai. The cause was the cancellation of flights after September 30, 2026, when one of the company's pilots attempted to carry out a terrorist attack on board a plane flying from Dubai to Israel. Flydubai suspended flights on this route. The plaintiffs claim that the company, simultaneously with the cancellation notices, effectively disclaimed responsibility for hundreds of passengers, leaving them without assistance. The couple, after a layover in Dubai, were supposed to fly to Israel on an Emirates flight operated by Flydubai. After the cancellation, they traveled from Dubai to Athens and independently purchased tickets to Israel with Arkia, as well as paid for accommodation, meals, and transportation. They estimate their material and non-material damages at 8,677 shekels. The plaintiffs seek to represent all Flydubai ticket holders who received cancellation notices. Attorney Efrat Sagi stated her intention to seek compensation for passengers. Flydubai has not yet responded to the claim. The court filing followed criticism of the company's treatment of passengers on flight FZ1073, whom the company contacted only 12 days after the incident, without mentioning the attempted hijacking or informing them of monetary compensation.
