Israeli escalation in southern Lebanon includes airstrikes, shelling, and ground incursions

The Israeli occupation army continues its attacks on areas in southern Lebanon, including airstrikes, artillery shelling, explosions, and ground incursions, despite the ceasefire agreement. The shelling targeted the outskirts of towns in the Nabatieh and Bint Jbeil districts. Lebanese sources reported three airstrikes on Nabatieh al-Fawqa, one of which targeted a medical team without causing injuries. Explosions and shelling were also reported in Mais al-Jabal and al-Mansouri, along with an Israeli incursion towards Deir Mimas.

On Sunday, September 20, 2026, the Israeli occupation army continued its attacks on several areas in southern Lebanon, through airstrikes, artillery shelling, demolition operations, and ground movements, amid ongoing Israeli violations of the ceasefire. Lebanese sources reported that artillery shelling at midnight targeted the outskirts of the town of Zawtar al-Sharqiya from the direction of Mayfadoun in the Nabatieh district, in addition to the forest of Aita al-Jabal in the Bint Jbeil district. In the Nabatieh district, Israeli airstrikes targeted the town of Nabatieh al-Fawqa and its surroundings, while sources reported three airstrikes on the Old Square neighborhood, one of which targeted a medical team heading to the site of two previous airstrikes, with no injuries reported among the paramedics. The occupation forces also continued demolition and blasting operations in several southern towns, alongside movements of their vehicles and forces near the border areas. Mais al-Jabal and al-Mansouri witnessed explosions and shelling in recent hours, while sources reported an Israeli incursion towards the outskirts of Deir Mimas. These developments are an extension of the escalation witnessed in the southern regions in recent days, which included targeting homes, facilities, and medical teams, in addition to burning, demolition, and Israeli military movements, despite the ceasefire. The Lebanese Ministry of Health announced in its last cumulative toll published on September 10 that the number of victims of the aggression since March 2 reached 4,383 martyrs and 12,406 wounded, while the total toll since October 8, 2023 reached approximately 8,950 martyrs and 30,642 wounded.
