France's incoming ambassador to Israel, Christophe Parisot, stated today (Monday) that he wishes to restore relations between Israel and France to their previous state. He made these remarks during his credentials ceremony with the President of the State, alongside four other incoming ambassadors: Rwanda, Austria, the Netherlands, and Ghana. Last Friday, anger erupted in the French Jewish community against President Macron, who referred to the Islamophobic attack that same day as a turning point where, for the first time, an attack allegedly targeted French citizens because of their race or religion. A far-right extremist driving in the Paris suburbs shot at passersby with dark skin only, killing one person and wounding several others, including a 12-year-old girl in serious condition. The shooter was arrested and the incident is being investigated as a terrorist attack. Yonatan Arfi, president of the umbrella organization of French Jews, called on Macron to retract his remarks and listed a series of Jewish and non-Jewish victims killed in past terrorist attacks.
