The screening is an initiative of M5S Europa, the European delegation of the Italian Five Star Movement, and is organized by European Parliament member Valentina Palmisano, who belongs to The Left group. The screening is not an official event of the European Parliament and does not represent an official position. The film is based on leaked investigation materials of Benjamin Netanyahu, his wife Sara, and his son Yair, which were leaked in 2023 to filmmaker Alex Gibney via the Signal app. Alongside the investigation footage, interviews are integrated with key figures who knew Netanyahu closely, including state witness Nir Hefetz, former Shin Bet chief Ami Ayalon, former Prime Minister Ehud Olmert, and journalist Yoav Drucker. The film presents a sharp political thesis linking Netanyahu's legal battle with major political moves in recent years, including political alliances, the judicial overhaul, and the conduct of his governments during the war. It should be noted that the thesis presented in the film has not been established as a finding in the ongoing legal proceedings against Netanyahu, and Netanyahu denies the charges, claiming political persecution. The film has previously been screened at the Toronto International Film Festival and DOC NYC, and was shortlisted for the 2024 Oscar for Best Documentary Feature. The day after the screening in Brussels, on September 30, a round of screenings is planned in Italy.
