Following Channel 14 exposé: Bus stop on Arafat-named street discontinued

Transportation Minister Miri Regev ordered the immediate cessation of bus stops on the street bearing the name of Yasser Arafat in Sakhnin, following an exposé by Channel 14. Regev, a cabinet member, clarified that in the State of Israel, the nation-state of the Jewish people, there is no place for commemorating enemies and murderers in the public sphere. The minister noted that already in 2013, when she served as chairwoman of the Knesset Interior Committee, she opposed the Sakhnin municipality's request to name a street after Arafat, whom she described as a terrorist leader responsible for murderous attacks. Now, in light of the fact that station names are derived from the street name, it was decided to discontinue service at the station until the situation is rectified. The Transportation Ministry will provide an alternative transportation solution for residents on a different street that does not bear the name of someone who acted against the state.
