Jonathan Elhouri, a son of an SLA family living in Israel, is one of 36 cadets who began the Foreign Ministry's cadet course. He is the first SLA veteran in this role. The course, lasting about half a year, aims to train diplomats to represent Israel in missions worldwide. Elhouri wrote on Facebook that this is "the most natural step in my life story, a direct continuation of the covenant my parents signed with the State of Israel" through establishing the SLA in southern Lebanon. The 36 cadets were selected from about 2,000 applicants, with an acceptance rate of less than 2%. Among the cadets are immigrants from Russia, Ethiopia, England, Venezuela, and Canada. Foreign Minister Gideon Sa'ar told the cadets: "Represent Israel out of a deep sense of justice. That is the essence of the mission."
