Fight over a sun lounger ends in death - nightmare on the beach

On the beach of Vouliagmeni on the Athens Riviera, a tragic incident occurred: an 82-year-old man died after a fight with a 76-year-old vacationer over a shortage of sun loungers. The conflict began on Sunday morning, September 20, when the elderly man arrived at the beach with his wife before 10:00 AM and could not find a free spot. A verbal altercation escalated into a fight, in which, according to ERT, other people may have been involved. During the scuffle, the 82-year-old sustained serious injuries and presumably suffered a cardiac arrest. He was taken to the Asklipieio Hospital in Voula, where he died around 11:00 AM. Police detained the 76-year-old participant in the fight and a 21-year-old woman who was with him. The manager of the beach resort was also brought in for questioning. Greek authorities called the incident unprecedented and stated that all those involved will appear before a judge.
