The lawsuit, filed in the federal district court for the District of Columbia, claims the move is illegal and violates press freedom, based on discrimination over coverage content. The outlets stated they notified the administration of the lawsuit and that emergency hearings may take place as early as this week. Trump responded on his social media platform Truth Social, calling the outlets a "security threat" without providing evidence. In contrast, the lawsuit argues they were prevented from doing their work "for one simple reason: Trump doesn't like the content of the coverage." White House Correspondents' Association President Jackie Heinrich called on the administration to immediately restore access. The move comes ahead of the U.S. midterm elections expected in November, with Trump's approval ratings at historic lows.
