Itamar Ben Gvir: "The Prime Minister Does Not Rule Out the Death Penalty for the Terrorist"

National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir raised the possibility of implementing the death penalty law for terrorists for the first time during a limited security discussion following the attack in Binyamin. Prime Minister Netanyahu requested the position of the IDF, and its representatives responded that there is no obstacle. An additional discussion with the participation of the Military Advocate General is expected.

Two hours before the start of Yom Kippur, a limited security discussion was held regarding the situation in Judea and Samaria. National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir raised the possibility of implementing the death penalty law for terrorists for the first time, following the attack in Binyamin in which Natanel Shakron was murdered. Ben Gvir argued that the current case is the first to meet the criteria for activating the law. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu requested the position of IDF officials regarding the possibility of implementing it. IDF representatives responded that from their perspective, there is no obstacle to advancing the possibility. However, the Military Advocate General did not participate in the discussion, so it was decided to hold an additional professional meeting of the limited cabinet with his participation. Following the discussion, Ben Gvir said that the Prime Minister did not rule out the death penalty for the terrorist. The law was approved in the Knesset in a third reading in March 2026 with a majority of 62 supporters against 48 opponents.
