Meta is launching AI-based personalization tools on Facebook, allowing users to define in their own words what they want to see in their feed and Reels. The main innovation is a dedicated area called 'Your Algorithm', which will be integrated into the three-dot menu at the top of each post. By clicking, users can type free-text prompts to add or remove topics of interest. Additionally, when clicking 'Interested' or 'Not Interested' buttons, the system will prompt a follow-up question to elaborate in natural language why the content was liked or disliked, and recommendations will update immediately. Behind the scenes, large language models (LLMs) analyze context, nuances, and user intent. Meta defines this step as transferring control to the consumer. The tools have begun a gradual rollout on mobile apps worldwide and are expected to reach all users in the coming weeks.
