The Be'er Sheva Magistrate's Court last night extended the detention of four young suspects, including a resident of Jerusalem and three residents of Ashkelon, who are suspected of involvement in a shooting incident that occurred on Thursday night in Ashkelon. According to the suspicion, motorcycle riders shot at the four against the backdrop of an earlier conflict with one of the passengers. Meanwhile, the police are examining the possibility that the shots were actually fired by one of the four, as he was found in possession of a licensed firearm due to being an armed security guard. One of the suspects is an active Border Police reservist, and two of the four, including the Border Police officer, are brothers. The police attribute to them offenses of shooting in a residential area, purchasing, transporting, and possessing weapons, and conspiracy to commit a crime. Judge Or Adam ruled that one suspect, a 35-year-old Ashkelon resident, will remain in detention for three days, and the other three, in their twenties, were sent to house arrest for three days. The judge reasoned that the evidence, although not yet admissible, is sufficient for reasonable suspicion, and noted the severity of the offenses committed with planning and sophistication as part of gang conflicts. The police requested a six-day extension, but the judge partially granted the request.
