Even among the Republican base, there was a sharp decline: 73% support compared to 82% in the previous poll. The poll was conducted against a turbulent period in which Trump expelled three news organizations from the White House. Only 17% of respondents are satisfied with his handling of the cost of living, the most critical issue for voters ahead of the midterm elections on November 3. The war in Iran, which Trump launched in February, has dramatically driven up fuel prices. For the first time, the number of Republicans dissatisfied with his handling of the economy exceeds his supporters: 51% to 44%. Only 34% of all respondents support the strikes on Iran. 82% of respondents believe the conflict will last a long time. In the general poll, Democrats lead Republicans 43% to 35% – the largest gap this year. Trump maintains his strength on the immigration issue with 79% support among Republicans, but among the general public only 36% support his policies. The poll was conducted among 1,277 adults in the US, with a margin of error of 3 percentage points.
