Drama in the broadcast rights of Europe's major football competitions: the international broadcasting platform DAZN, owned by Len Blavatnik, has won UEFA's tender to broadcast European football matches starting from the 2027/28 season (next season) and for four seasons. This was announced this evening (Thursday). For the first time since 1995, the Sports Channel (Channel 5) will no longer hold the broadcast rights for the Champions League. The platform will also broadcast the Europa League and Conference League matches (whose broadcast rights are currently held by Charlton). Market estimates suggest that DAZN will sell some of the matches back to Charlton and Channel 5 to generate significant revenue. DAZN is an international sports streaming platform, founded in 2016, broadcasting a variety of sports, primarily football, along with boxing, motorsports, and more. The company is owned by the Access Industries group of billionaire Len Blavatnik.
